Privacy policy

Last updated: October 16, 2026

This policy explains which personal data ViewGoblin processes, why, and what rights you have. It covers the website viewgoblin.com, the ViewGoblin app and the ViewGoblin browser extension for Chrome and Firefox.

1. Controller

Malte Hoffmann, Micro-SaaS Solutions
Am Salzstadel 13, 83022 Rosenheim, Germany
Email: info@viewgoblin.com

We are not required to appoint a data protection officer. For all questions about data protection, write to info@viewgoblin.com.

2. Hosting

ViewGoblin runs on servers of Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, in their data center in Nuremberg, Germany. Hetzner processes data only on our behalf, under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).

When you open a page, your browser sends technical data such as your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser type. This is necessary to deliver the page and to protect the service from abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not keep access logs of these requests.

3. Cookies and tracking

When you log in, we set one cookie that keeps you logged in. It is strictly necessary for the service you asked for, so it needs no consent (§ 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG). We use no tracking, no analytics and no advertising cookies.

The website's fonts are served from our own server; your browser does not contact a font provider.

4. Your account and the app

ViewGoblin is a service for businesses. When you use the app, we process:

  • Account data: name, email address and your password (stored only as a hash).
  • Team data: your organization, its members and invitations.
  • Login sessions: the IP address and browser of each session, so you stay logged in and we can detect misuse.
  • What you enter: the YouTube channels and videos you monitor, campaigns, notes and tracked links, and the public statistics we fetch about them.

Legal basis: performing our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), and for security our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep this data while your account exists and delete it when you delete the account or ask us to, unless the law requires us to keep it longer (for example invoices).

5. YouTube API Services

ViewGoblin uses YouTube API Services to fetch public data about channels and videos, such as titles, descriptions, view, like and comment counts. By using ViewGoblin you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's privacy policy applies to YouTube: policies.google.com/privacy. ViewGoblin does not access your YouTube or Google account.

In the app, video thumbnails are loaded directly from YouTube's servers (Google). Your browser sends your IP address to Google when it loads them. Google LLC is based in the USA and certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in showing you the videos you monitor (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

6. Browser extension

The ViewGoblin extension shows statistics for the YouTube video or channel open in your browser. It reads them from the open YouTube tab and shows them in its window. It does not change YouTube's page, and it does not read other websites or your YouTube account.

What the extension sends to viewgoblin.com:

  • When a YouTube video or channel page opens: the channel ID and the video ID, together with a random install ID that the extension creates once. We store the channel ID with the number and time of requests, so ViewGoblin can follow the channel. The install ID is kept only as a daily count of newly requested channels, for rate limits. We do not store which install looked at which channel.
  • When you run the optional mood check on a comment export: the texts of those comments. They are rated in memory and the result is sent back. The texts are not stored or logged.

For the channels it follows, ViewGoblin fetches public statistics through the YouTube API Services once a day and keeps them for 30 days. Comment exports are created in your browser and saved only on your device.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in providing the functions you use and in building the channel history the extension shows (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can stop all of this at any time by removing the extension.

7. Contact by email

If you write to us, we use your message and contact details to answer you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for questions about a contract, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed, unless the law requires us to keep it.

8. Recipients

We do not sell personal data and do not share it for advertising. Recipients are only Hetzner as our hosting provider (section 2) and Google, where your browser loads thumbnails from YouTube (section 5).

9. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • access the data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR),
  • have it corrected (Art. 16) or deleted (Art. 17),
  • restrict its processing (Art. 18),
  • receive it in a portable format (Art. 20),
  • object to processing based on our legitimate interest (Art. 21), for reasons arising from your particular situation.

To use these rights, write to info@viewgoblin.com.

You can also complain to a data protection authority. The authority responsible for us is the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany, www.lda.bayern.de.

10. Changes

We update this policy when ViewGoblin changes, for example when we add a payment or email provider. The date at the top shows the current version.
